Archive for May, 2009Hi everyone. Last year I bet $100 each on 3 horses, 2 finished out of the money. Denis of Cork finished 3rd and retuned $290 on my bet. I lost $10 and had an exciting time! Maybe it is the thrill of winning with risk that I love.
Lets look at this year’s Derby. It is going to be really tough to make a good choice. This field is so balanced. There is not a clear cut choice. This will not be a year of a triple crown winner. I predict a different horse will win each of the 3 Crown races. Here is my strategy, I pick the one of the favorites and then pick one or two 15–1, or 10–1 horses. Lets look at the favorites first. I Want Revenge, Pioneer of the Nile and Friesan Fire. We can eliminate Friesan Fire as this colt has had a 7 week lay off and has never faced top rung competition, and never run this distance. I want Revenge (love the name, doesn’t count in racing) can run the distance, has a great breeding. His jockey does not have a lot of experience, and has lost to Pioneer of the Nile twice. Not going to win, but may be in the money. My choice is Pioneer of the Nile. Bob Baffert is the trainer, and has one the Derby 3 times. This horse has won $1,200,000. Gomez is the best jockey in the country. Pioneer knows how to win, however, never raced in dirt. Pioneer should go off at about 4–1 or 5–1 nice return on your money. OK, now I need to pick a couple of long shots. This could pay off big on this race. We may in fact see a winner that is over 20–1. My pick is Chocolate Candy at 20–1. Has the jockey and staying power for the distance. Papa Clem at 20–1, often over looked and is my dark horse choice. Races great in the dirt. Of course Summer Bird should be considered as a sentimental favorite! Here are my bets: Good Luck on Your Bets! This race could have surprises and I could go broke! Luv,
